How should a shungite pendant be looked after? — Shungite pendant, oval

Shungite is a porous mineral, so it is sensitive to prolonged contact with water, aggressive detergents and cosmetics. It is recommended to take the pendant off before showering or bathing, and before applying perfume or creams: chemical components can gradually change the surface of the stone.

For cleaning it is enough to wipe the stone periodically with a soft dry cloth. This removes dirt and keeps the surface texture. If the stone does get wet, gently blot it and let it dry naturally, without a hairdryer or direct sunlight.

It is better to store the pendant separately from other jewellery, especially metal pieces, to avoid scratching the stone. A small fabric pouch or a separate compartment in a jewellery box is suitable. Prolonged direct sunlight can affect the appearance of the natural mineral, so storage in a dark place is preferable.

It is also worth checking the cord or chain the pendant hangs on from time to time for wear, especially if the accessory is worn every day.
