Lanolin is a natural wax derived from sheep wool grease (obtained as a by-product of wool scouring), consisting of a complex mixture of fatty acid esters of cholesterol and other sterols with high-molecular-weight alcohols; it is one of the most emollient, moisture-retaining substances used in cosmetics, creating a soft, protective lipid film on the skin surface that prevents moisture loss without occlusive heaviness. Natural glycerine (glycerol) is a trihydric alcohol and one of the most effective humectants in skin care, attracting water to the skin surface and maintaining epidermal hydration. The soap provides a rich, creamy lather during use and prevents the skin from feeling stripped of its natural oils after washing.
