Most iodine-containing supplements use potassium iodide or potassium iodate, which are synthetic mineral compounds. In Evalar Laminaria, the source of iodine is the laminaria seaweed itself: it accumulates iodine in an organic form as it grows in sea water.
Although laminaria is a familiar food in many cultures, a food supplement with laminaria is not suitable for choosing on your own in several situations.
The main dietary sources of iodine are sea fish, seafood, seaweed and iodised salt. If all of these are regularly present in your diet (several times a week), the need for an additional source of iodine is most likely small.
