What do the key ingredients — hyaluronic acid, keratin, and wheat proteins — actually do in a rinse-off conditioner?

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant: it attracts and holds water molecules, helping the hair retain hydration along the lengths and ends where natural oils don't reach. This reduces the dry, straw-like sensation that comes from repeated washing or styling. Keratin is a structural protein identical to what hair is made of; in a rinse-off product it doesn't permanently rebuild the fiber, but it deposits on the surface and temporarily fills gaps in the cuticle, making weakened strands feel more cohesive and less prone to snapping during brushing. Wheat proteins are smaller, film-forming proteins that create a lightweight, flexible coating — this adds slip so combs glide easier, gives a perception of fuller body, and helps the cuticle lie flatter, which increases light reflection (shine). Together they address hydration, mechanical strength feel, and surface smoothness in one step.
