Layering order follows texture: thinnest to thickest. After cleansing, apply any low-pH water-based actives (vitamin C serum, AHA/BHA toner, prescription retinoids if directed by a clinician). Wait until they absorb, then apply the hyaluronic acid gel while the skin is still slightly damp — this maximizes its humectant effect. Follow with moisturizer and, in the morning, sunscreen.
The gel’s hydration can reduce the stinging and peeling often associated with retinoids or acids by supporting barrier function, but it does not neutralize their activity. If you are starting a new active, the product guidance advises introducing any active cosmetic gradually on irritated or damaged skin. Begin with the gel alone for a few days to establish baseline hydration, then add the active every third night, monitoring for redness or excessive dryness. Avoid using the gel immediately after a professional peel or laser treatment unless your clinician approves; wait until the skin has re-epithelialized and feels comfortable.
