Hyaluronic acid is a humectant — it pulls water into the stratum corneum from deeper layers or from the environment. In humid conditions or on oilier skin, the gel alone may provide sufficient comfort because ambient moisture and natural sebum slow evaporation. However, in dry indoor air, air-conditioned offices, heated rooms, or cold weather, the water drawn up by the gel can evaporate quickly, leaving skin tighter than before. The product guidance explicitly notes: if your skin is very dry, follow with a cream on top to help reduce water loss.
A practical rule: apply the gel to damp skin after cleansing, wait 30–60 seconds for it to absorb, then assess. If your skin feels comfortable and supple after 10 minutes, you may skip the cream that day. If you feel any tightness, apply a moisturizer. In a morning routine, the gel under sunscreen often suffices; in an evening routine or during seasonal transitions, adding a cream helps maintain barrier integrity overnight.
