Cocoa butter (Theobroma cacao seed fat) is the natural lipid extracted from fermented, dried, roasted and pressed cacao beans — one of the most prized, universally loved and versatile natural cosmetic plant butters in the world, with a characteristic sweet, warm, rich chocolate fragrance from its naturally occurring volatile aromatic compounds. Cocoa butter has a unique solid-at-room-temperature profile: it melts on contact with skin (melting point approximately 34–38°C — just below skin temperature), leaving a smooth, non-greasy, satiny film. It is exceptionally rich in saturated fatty acids (stearic, palmitic and lauric acids) and oleic acid, making it an outstanding cosmetic emollient and skin-conditioning ingredient. Used in massage, applied with massaging movements to dry skin areas; as a base oil for cosmetic massage blends; to help prevent stretch marks (mixed with olive, jojoba or castor oil); and to enrich face creams and cosmetic masks.
