The drug has an antiseptic effect. It coagulates proteins (including enzymes) of microbial cells, disrupts the permeability of the cell membrane, thereby inhibiting the growth and development of bacteria.
When used externally, the drug is absorbed through damaged skin, wound surfaces; when accidentally ingested orally – through the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract. Boric acid can accumulate in body tissues. It is excreted from the body slowly.

Contraindications
Increased sensitivity to boric acid, impaired kidney function, chronic mesotympanitis with normal or slightly changed mucosa, traumatic perforations of the tympanic membrane; pregnancy or breastfeeding period, for the treatment of mammary glands, children (including newborns).

Do not apply the drug to large skin areas, do not use for irrigation of cavities. Avoid contact with eyes.

Method of application and dosage
Apply topically.
In case of pioderma, diaper rash, affected areas of the skin should be treated with a cloth soaked in the preparation, 2-3 times a day.
In case of otitis, insert tampons soaked in the solution into the external auditory canal or instill 3-5 drops 2-3 times a day.
Overdose
In case of accidental oral ingestion of the drug, perform gastric lavage, administer oral saline laxatives, enterosorbents (activated charcoal), and symptomatic therapy.
Symptoms of acute poisoning: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, circulatory disturbances and CNS depression, decreased body temperature, shock, coma, erythematous rash. In case of severe poisoning, take measures to maintain vital organ functions, perform hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, perform blood transfusion. Prolonged use of the drug on large skin areas may cause symptoms of chronic intoxication: tissue edema, exhaustion, stomatitis, eczema, menstrual cycle disorders in women, anemia, seizures, alopecia. In such cases, discontinue the drug and provide symptomatic treatment.
Side effects
The use of the drug can cause allergic reactions (skin redness, itching, hives, rash, swelling). In rare cases, an anaphylactic reaction may occur, including shock and desquamation of the epithelium.
Some patients, especially with prolonged use, may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, confusion, oliguria. Patients with impaired kidney function may experience seizures.
