The product's name references "spermaceti" — historically, spermaceti was a waxy substance derived from sperm whale oil used in traditional pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations as an emollient. In modern cosmetics, "spermaceti" refers to cetyl esters (principally cetyl palmitate) as the synthetic or plant-derived equivalent that provides the same smooth, creamy emolliency without the use of animal-derived spermaceti. Olive oil (Olea europaea) provides oleic acid, squalene and polyphenol antioxidants for deep lipid nourishment. Natural lanolin is a complex wax ester from sheep wool grease providing outstanding moisture-retaining and emollient properties — forming a protective, moisture-retaining film on the skin surface without clogging pores. Beeswax (Cera alba) is a natural wax providing an occlusive protective barrier film on the skin.
