The LAUMA anti-radiculitis support belt, model 105, size 5 is an orthopaedic lumbar brace designed to stabilise the lower back and ease tension in the muscles around the lumbar spine. It belongs to the category of soft-fixation lumbosacral belts — a well-known tool used by people who spend long hours on their feet, lift heavy loads, or experience recurring discomfort in the lower back area.
The belt works through a combination of gentle compression and mechanical fixation. When wrapped around the waist, it slightly limits excessive bending and twisting of the lumbar segment, which gives strained muscles a chance to relax instead of constantly holding the spine in place. The light warming effect of the fabric improves local blood flow, which many users find pleasant during cold weather, physical work or long drives. The Velcro (hook-and-loop) closure allows precise adjustment of tightness, so the same belt can be worn snugly during activity and loosened slightly when sitting.
Model 105 is a classic LAUMA design — a Latvian brand long associated with medical textiles and orthopaedic accessories. Size 5 corresponds to a larger waist circumference — check the manufacturer's size chart before purchase to ensure correct fit. A belt that is too loose will not stabilise the spine; one that is too tight may restrict breathing and circulation.
Typical scenarios where this brace is chosen include:
A support belt is an aid, not a treatment. It should not be worn continuously throughout the day, as prolonged use can weaken the back muscles that normally hold the spine. If lower-back pain is sharp, radiates into the leg, or persists for more than a few days, consult a doctor or physiotherapist before relying on the brace. Pregnant women and people with skin conditions, hernias or cardiovascular issues should seek medical advice before wearing a compression belt.
