Why does vitamin D3 need an oil base, and what is the MCT oil in the formula?

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is one of the fat-soluble vitamins — this means it needs a fatty medium to be distributed within the supplement. In VITATEKA Vitamiin D3 spreipudel, this base is MCT oil — medium-chain triglycerides obtained from plant sources (most often coconut or palm kernel oil).

MCT oil is chosen for supplements like this for several reasons: it is liquid at room temperature, has no pronounced taste or smell and mixes well with fat-soluble substances. It is in this medium that the cholecalciferol is distributed evenly throughout the bottle, which is important for a consistent dose with every press.

For the user, this means the spray does not need to be taken with fatty food — the oil base is already present in the product itself. Even so, taking it with or after a meal remains a sensible habit: it reduces the likelihood of discomfort and fits in with the standard recommendations for taking fat-soluble vitamins.
