Why does a body balm contain chondroitin, glucosamine and mumijo – aren't these usually joint supplements?

Chondroitin and glucosamine are widely known as ingredients of oral joint supplements, but they are also included in topical formulas – creams, balms and gels – for application to the knees, elbows, lower back and other areas where stiffness or tension is felt after exertion. In FBT Tiibeti Palsam they are part of a complex of ingredients aimed specifically at such areas.

Mumijo is a resinous substance of natural origin that is traditionally used in multi-ingredient balms and ointments in Asia and Eastern Europe. In topical products it is added as part of a plant and mineral complex; it has long featured in the recipes of such products, specifically in combination with other active ingredients.

It is important to understand that a topical balm is no substitute for oral supplements or medical treatment. It is not intended for diagnosing or treating joint diseases. If you have chronic joint or spine problems, consult a doctor before using any topical products.

The plant extracts in the formula – aloe vera, astragalus, ginkgo biloba, ginseng and echinacea – complement the formula and make the balm suitable for warming massage, especially after physical activity or in cold weather.
