Children's skin is not just a smaller version of adult skin. It is thinner, its barrier function is still developing, and it reaches sun overload much faster. That is why a dedicated kids' formula is a sensible choice rather than a generic adult product. The texture in this segment is softened with moisturising and emollient ingredients, so the cream spreads easily on active, wriggling children and does not feel sticky after application — which matters when you need to reapply quickly during play.
An adult product may contain fragrances or ingredients that are unnecessary for a child's skin, and its texture may be less pleasant. A kids' formula is designed around how children actually move and play, and around the fact that their skin needs gentler care.
That said, the SPF50 rating means the same filters out roughly 98% of UVB rays when applied in the recommended amount — the same level of protection you would expect from a high-SPF adult product, but in a form better suited to a child.
