A fruit nectar, by common definition in the EU, is a beverage containing fruit content (puree and/or juice), water, and often added sugars or sweeteners. For this product, the minimum fruit content is 30% sea buckthorn puree. A pure juice, in contrast, is 100% fruit juice from pressing, with no added ingredients. This distinction matters for sea buckthorn in particular. Pure sea buckthorn juice is extremely tart, concentrated, and can be challenging to drink in large quantities. By formulating it as a nectar, the producer creates a more balanced, ready-to-drink product that retains the authentic berry flavor and nutritional components (like naturally occurring vitamin C and carotenoids) while being palatable for regular consumption. The use of puree, rather than just juice, is key—it ensures the beneficial pigments, fatty acids, and texture from the whole berry flesh are present, giving the nectar its characteristic dense mouthfeel and vibrant color. Choosing a nectar means you are getting a product designed for direct enjoyment, often with meals or as a refreshment, without needing further dilution or sweetening at home.
