What are leech extract, troxerutin, aescin and diosmin, and why are they in a leg gel?

The formula combines four ingredients that are all familiar in the tired-legs cosmetic category:

  • Leech extract — here in double concentration, obtained from Hirudo medicinalis. In cosmetics it is used as a skin-conditioning ingredient and has a long traditional association with products made for tired, heavy-feeling legs.
  • Troxerutin — a flavonoid derived from rutin, a plant compound. It is a common choice in topical formulas aimed at the skin of heavy-feeling legs.
  • Aescin — a saponin from horse chestnut, one of the classic plant ingredients found in leg gels.
  • Diosmin — a bioflavonoid of citrus origin, another ingredient regularly seen in this product category.

In this gel, the four components work as a cosmetic complex: they complement the cooling, refreshing effect of the base and support the overall goal of legs feeling less weighed down. It is worth being clear that these are cosmetic-grade topical ingredients — their presence does not turn the gel into a medicinal product, and no treatment effect should be expected. One practical note: if you know you react to horse chestnut, citrus derivatives or leech-derived ingredients, check the full ingredient list and test a small skin area before regular use.
