Copper has been used in Ayurveda for oral hygiene items for many centuries — it is one of the few metals traditionally considered suitable for such purposes. That is why many makers of Ayurvedic accessories, including SATTVA, choose copper as the material for their scrapers.
From a practical point of view, a copper scraper differs from a plastic one in several ways:
- Strength and durability: copper does not break or bend out of shape with normal use, so a single scraper lasts much longer than disposable or cheap plastic alternatives.
- Pleasant weight: the metal feels weighty in the hand, which helps you control the pressure and movement better.
- No microplastics: unlike plastic products, a copper scraper does not shed plastic microparticles during use.
Copper may darken over time — this is natural oxidation. To keep the scraper clean, simply rinse it with water after each use and wipe it from time to time with lemon juice or a mild cleaning agent, then rinse it thoroughly.
