For the support to do its job, the fit is important. A brace that is too loose stabilises the joint worse, while one that is too tight creates extra pressure, so the product should be chosen by size and put on so that the support feels firm but comfortable, without numbness or tingling.
A few general practical points that apply to elastic braces:
put the product on clean, dry skin, which reduces irritation during prolonged wear;
give the leg a rest from time to time by removing the brace, especially during continuous loading lasting several hours;
watch the condition of the skin under the fabric: if redness or discomfort appears, stop wearing the brace. Do not use it on open wounds or inflamed skin; if an allergic reaction occurs, stop using it and consult a doctor.
For care, gentle hand washing in cool water without aggressive detergents and natural drying away from radiators and direct heat sources is usually suitable; this way the elastic fibres keep their elasticity and degree of support for longer.
If pain or swelling increases during use, this is a reason to consult a specialist rather than increasing the compression yourself.
