Can I take propolis tincture if I am allergic to honey?

Propolis is made by bees from resinous plant substances and is a bee product, in the same group as honey, beeswax and royal jelly. If you have a confirmed or suspected sensitivity to honey, propolis or any other bee-derived substances, it is better to avoid this tincture.

It is important to understand that a reaction can occur not only to honey itself but also to proteins and compounds common to different bee products. So even if you tolerate honey normally but know you are sensitive to propolis specifically, that is also a contraindication.

If you are unsure how you will react, consult a specialist before you start taking it. This is especially relevant if you have chronic conditions, a tendency towards allergic reactions or are taking medicines.
