Can this ointment be used for children?

The product is stated to be suitable for children and people with sensitive skin; no specific age threshold is given, and menthol and essential oils – eucalyptus oil in particular – traditionally call for caution when used on small children. Paediatricians, as a rule, do not recommend products with menthol for children under 2 years, and in some cases under 6 years, since high concentrations of menthol can cause undesirable reactions in the airways of small children.

If you are considering this product for a child, a sensible step is to consult a paediatrician beforehand, especially for pre-school children. For older children who have no allergy to essential oils, the ointment can first be tested on a small area of skin – for example, on the inside of the wrist – and the reaction observed for several hours.

It is also important to make sure that the child does not touch the ointment with their hands and does not transfer it to the eyes or mouth: menthol and eucalyptus oil are not meant to get onto mucous membranes.
