Who should not drink white willow bark tea? — White willow bark tea, 50 g – Lekraset

White willow bark contains salicylates — natural compounds related to acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin). This means that it may cause unwanted reactions in some people, even if they do not take aspirin as such.

This tea is not recommended:

  • If you have an established sensitivity or allergy to salicylates — a reaction may take the form of skin rashes, digestive problems or other symptoms of intolerance.
  • During pregnancy and breastfeeding — the product is contraindicated during these periods.
  • For children — without first consulting a paediatrician.

Be sure to consult a specialist before drinking it if you:

  • take anticoagulants (blood-thinning medicines) — salicylates may enhance their effect;
  • regularly use products based on acetylsalicylic acid;
  • have chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys or liver;
  • take any prescription medicines on a regular basis.

The plant origin of the product does not automatically make it safe for everyone. If in doubt, it is better to check with a doctor or pharmacist before you start drinking it regularly.
