Place the stick in the holder vertically or at a slight angle, so that the ash falls in one place and does not mark the surface. Bring the flame to the tip and hold it for a few seconds until it catches. Then gently blow out the flame: the stick should smoulder rather than burn with an open flame. If the tip goes out, repeat it; sometimes it does not work the first time.
According to the product description, the intended scent appears only after the stick has burned out. One stick usually burns for about 60–70 minutes; the exact time depends on the thickness of the stick, its composition and the conditions in the room (a draught speeds up burning).
To keep the scent pleasant rather than overpowering, it is better to use the sticks in a ventilated room or with a window slightly open. In a small closed room even one stick can give a very intense smell, so take this into account when choosing a place.
Do not leave a smouldering stick unattended, keep it away from fabrics, curtains, paper and other flammable objects, and out of the reach of children and animals.
