LEKRASET Haava koor is pure crushed aspen bark (Populus tremula) with no additives. It is used to make an infusion: hot water is poured over the bark and it is left to steep. According to the instructions, pour 200 ml of boiling water over 2–4 teaspoons (3–6 g) of bark, leave to steep for 15 minutes and strain; drink it warm, 1/2 glass twice a day with meals, for a course of 1 month. The amount of bark can be adjusted within the range of 2–4 teaspoons depending on how strong you want the drink to be: this is one of the advantages of the “raw material” format over a ready-made extract.
The infusion can be drunk warm as a herbal drink or used to rinse the mouth and throat; both uses are mentioned in the traditional herbal medicine of Northern and Eastern Europe. For rinsing, the infusion is usually made a little more concentrated and used once it has cooled to a comfortable temperature.
It is recommended to keep the prepared infusion in the fridge for no more than 24 hours: like any herbal drink without preservatives, it quickly loses its freshness. The bark itself should be kept in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture, with the packaging tightly closed after use.
