How do you prepare an infusion of valerian root with motherwort correctly? — Valerian Root, 50 g — Lekraset

An infusion of cut valerian root is prepared differently from ordinary herbal tea, and it is taken not by the cup but by the tablespoon.

Temperature and time. The root is a dense part of the plant, so to extract its natural compounds better, it is not simply covered with boiling water but prepared in a water bath: the raw material is covered with a glass of hot boiled water and heated for 15 minutes, stirring regularly. The infusion is then cooled, the raw material is squeezed out, and the volume is topped up with boiled water to 200 ml.

Proportions. According to the label, 1 tablespoon of the raw material is used per glass of hot boiled water for one preparation.

Motherwort in the blend. Five-lobed motherwort is part of this blend and is brewed together with the valerian root — you do not need to add anything separately. These two herbs are traditionally used as a pair: the combination is believed to give a more balanced effect.

When to drink it. According to the label, adults take 1 tablespoon of the infusion 3 times a day. It should not be mixed with coffee or other stimulating drinks.

Storing the raw material. Store the cut root in a dry, dark place, away from moisture and other odours — valerian root has a characteristic persistent aroma and easily absorbs other smells. The label does not give storage conditions for the prepared infusion.
