The balm is best suited for adding to ready-made dishes without heat treatment. The unrefined oil it contains is sensitive to high temperatures: when heated, it loses its natural aroma and characteristic qualities. For the same reason, the resin reveals itself best when cold.
Practical ways to use it:
- Salads — a few drops or a teaspoon instead of ordinary oil in a dressing; it goes especially well with leafy greens and vegetables.
- Porridge — added to porridge that has cooled or is warm (not hot) to give it an unusual piny, resinous note.
- Cooked vegetables — suitable as a finishing touch for baked or boiled vegetables once they have cooled slightly.
It is worth starting with a small amount — especially if you are trying products with resin for the first time. The resinous taste is quite intense, and it is easier to find the right portion gradually, according to your own taste. The balm is not a substitute for a balanced diet and is regarded as a flavour addition to your normal meals.
