I have a wheat allergy or sensitivity — can I use a cream with wheat germ oil?

This formula contains wheat germ oil, so caution is warranted if you know you react to wheat. How relevant this is depends on the type of sensitivity:

  • Skin-contact reactions: if wheat-based products have ever caused itching, redness or rash on your skin, it is safer to choose a cream without wheat derivatives, or at minimum discuss it with a dermatologist or allergist first.
  • Dietary intolerance: reacting to wheat in food does not automatically mean your skin will react to a topical product, but it is not a guarantee of tolerance either — so do not skip testing.

If you decide to try it, do a proper patch test: apply a small amount to the inner forearm or behind the ear, leave it for 24–48 hours, and watch for redness, itching or swelling. Only move on to facial use if the test area stays calm. If any irritation appears at any point, stop using the product and rinse the area with water.

With a diagnosed wheat allergy, especially a significant one, consult a specialist before introducing this cream rather than relying on a home patch test alone.
