I have a sesame allergy — is there any chance this oil is safe for me?

ORGANIC ALTAY SEESAMIÕLI 100ML
Question about the product ORGANIC ALTAY SEESAMIÕLI 100ML €3.99 Go to product

If you have a confirmed sesame allergy, this product is not safe for you. Sesame oil is pressed directly from sesame seeds and contains the proteins and other compounds responsible for allergic reactions. Even cold-pressed, unrefined oils retain allergenic components — refining does not remove them reliably enough to be considered safe.

Sesame is recognized as one of the major food allergens in the EU and many other regions, and reactions can range from mild oral itching to severe anaphylaxis in sensitive individuals. Cross-reactivity with other seeds or nuts is also possible in some people. If you have experienced any allergic symptoms after consuming sesame in the past — such as hives, swelling, breathing difficulties or digestive distress — you should avoid all sesame products, including oil, tahini, seeds and foods containing sesame ingredients.

There are no processing methods that make sesame oil hypoallergenic. If you are looking for an alternative oil with a mild nutty character, consider sunflower, almond (if tree nuts are tolerated) or avocado oil, but always check labels and consult your allergist before introducing a new oil into your diet.
