After opening, this pasteurized nectar should be stored in the refrigerator and consumed within 3-4 days for optimal quality and safety. Pasteurization heats the product to destroy spoilage microorganisms and enzymes, giving the sealed bottle a long shelf life at room temperature. Once opened, however, it is exposed to new airborne bacteria and yeasts. Refrigeration significantly slows their growth. Always reseal the bottle tightly with its original cap. The natural fruit acids and sugars in the nectar create an environment where mould can develop over time if left unrefrigerated. For best taste, give the bottle a gentle shake before serving, as some natural separation of the dense puree can occur. If you do not plan to finish the bottle within a few days, consider transferring a portion to a smaller, clean container to minimize air exposure in the main bottle. As with any food product, trust your senses; if the aroma, taste, or appearance changes significantly from when first opened, it is best not to consume it.
