Like all direct-dye tinting shampoos, the mahogany pigments will stain porous surfaces — skin, nails, grout, light-coloured towels, and shower curtains — on contact. Before starting, put on the disposable gloves usually included in the box (or nitrile gloves if not). Apply a thin layer of barrier cream, petroleum jelly, or a rich conditioner along the hairline, ears, and nape to create a shield against drips. Wear an old dark towel around your shoulders and keep a second dark towel handy for blotting. Work in a well-lit area so you can catch splashes immediately; if any product hits the sink, tiles, or shower tray, wipe it off with a damp cloth and a mild cleaner before it sets. Rinse your hair thoroughly with cool water until the runoff runs clear — this removes excess surface pigment that would otherwise transfer to pillowcases or clothing later. After rinsing, wash your hands and nails with soap and warm water, using a nail brush if needed. Store the tube capped and upright in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve the UV filter and dye stability.
