The balm is concentrated, so the amount matters more than with a thin massage lotion. A pea-sized portion is usually enough for one joint. Massage it into clean, dry skin with circular movements until fully absorbed. If you want to cover several areas, apply them one at a time instead of spreading a large amount over the whole body.

Start with an even smaller amount on the first use, especially on areas with thinner skin such as the back of the knee, the neck or the tops of the feet. This lets you see how your skin responds to the warming sensation. Wash your hands after application unless you are massaging the balm into your hands themselves; this prevents accidentally transferring it to your eyes or mouth.
