Eucalyptus is one of the most aromatic herbal materials: its essential-oil compounds, with their characteristic camphor-like smell, are active enough to cause irritation of the mucous membranes or skin, or an allergic reaction, in sensitive people. This does not mean the product is dangerous, but it does mean it should be used mindfully. The product is not used in case of hypersensitivity to eucalyptus.
Groups who should consult a specialist before use:
People prone to allergies to plants, especially aromatic essential-oil plants (mint, camphor, tea tree and the like).
Those who are sensitive to herbal infusions in general.
Pregnant women — the essential-oil compounds of eucalyptus are active enough to require a separate assessment during this period.
Parents choosing a product for a child: in children, especially young ones, eucalyptus in any form is used only on a doctor’s recommendation.
If you are using eucalyptus for the first time, it is sensible to start with a weak infusion and watch how you react. If itching, swelling, difficulty breathing or marked irritation appears, stop using it and consult a doctor.
The product is whole herbal material without any other ingredients, which makes it easier to assess tolerance: if a reaction occurs, its source is obvious.
