Herbal supplements are often perceived as completely safe, but valerian and motherwort are biologically active ingredients that can interact with a number of medicines and conditions. The dragées are not used in case of hypersensitivity to the ingredients, and the recommended daily amount of 9 dragées should not be exceeded.
It is worth consulting a specialist before taking them if you:
- take sedatives or sleeping pills: the plant ingredients may enhance their effect;
- use heart medicines: motherwort traditionally affects the heart rhythm, and the combination requires a doctor's assessment;
- are pregnant or breastfeeding;
- are choosing a supplement for a teenager: the dragées are intended only for adults and children over 14.
These restrictions do not mean that the product is dangerous in general; they mean that in the situations listed it is better not to make the decision on your own.
It is also important to understand what the product is for: it is a food supplement, not a medicine. It is not intended to treat anxiety disorders, chronic insomnia or heart disease. If symptoms are pronounced or persist for a long time, this is a reason to see a doctor rather than choose a food supplement.
