What is ashwagandha, and why is it called an adaptogen?

Swanson Ashwagandha kapslid N100 are capsules containing the root of ashwagandha, one of the best-known plants of Ayurveda. It is traditionally chosen at times of tension, heavy workload and emotional fatigue.

Ashwagandha is classed as an adaptogen — the term for plant substances that help the body cope more easily with stress factors and respond more calmly to overload. Its action is linked to an influence on the stress-response system: put simply, ashwagandha does not “switch off” tension instantly but helps the body adapt to it more gently.

It is important to understand how it differs from stimulants: unlike harsh “energy boosters”, ashwagandha usually acts more smoothly and does not produce a sudden lift. That is why it is often built into a daily routine over a long period rather than taken occasionally “for a quick result”.

The supplement is not a substitute for a balanced diet and is not intended to diagnose, treat or prevent disease. It should not be taken during pregnancy, while breastfeeding or in case of allergy, and if you have a chronic condition or take regular medication, its use should be agreed with a specialist.
