Loose dried herb is whole plant material without additional processing. The main difference from capsules and syrups is that you prepare the infusion yourself according to the recipe on the pack — 1 tablespoon of herb per cup of boiling water, 15–20 minutes in a water bath — and get a warm drink without any additives.
Capsules and tablets, on the other hand, contain a fixed dose of extract or powder and require no preparation — a plus for those who value speed. However, in this form you do not get a warm drink as such, and the brewing ritual itself, which many people include in their evening or morning routine, is missing.
Ready-made syrups usually contain additional ingredients — sweeteners, preservatives, other extracts. For those who prefer a minimal composition and control over what goes into their mug, loose herb turns out to be the more transparent option.
From a practical point of view, loose herbs take a little more time to prepare and require a strainer or filter for brewing. On the other hand, they are easier to keep in stock for a whole course and to combine with other herbs if you wish — provided such a combination has been agreed with a specialist.
