Ordinary sugar syrup is a neutral sweetener with no flavour of its own. LOODU Kadakasiirup works differently: it sweetens and at the same time adds the characteristic aroma of juniper — fresh, piney, with a light resinous note. It is this profile that makes it interesting for those who want to add variety to homemade drinks and dishes.
Juniper berries have long been used in Nordic cooking as an aromatic addition. In syrup form, this flavour becomes softer and more convenient: there is no need to steep berries, work out proportions or filter an infusion — just add the amount you need directly to a drink or dish.
In practice, the syrup works well in several ways:
Hot drinks — tea or warm water with juniper syrup takes on a more expressive, “forest” character, especially in the cool season.
Cold drinks and lemonades — a few drops in sparkling water give an unusual, refreshing taste without alcohol.
Desserts — the syrup is suitable for soaking baked goods and for serving with curd cheese, porridge or ice cream.
Sauces and marinades — a small amount adds a spicy accent to meat or vegetable dishes.
The juniper flavour is quite noticeable, so it is worth starting with a small amount and adjusting it to your taste — especially if you are using the syrup for the first time or cooking for people who are not used to strong plant aromas.
