Bleaching, perming, and chemical straightening all leave the cuticle raised and the internal structure temporarily compromised. In that state, hair acts like a sponge — it absorbs direct dye rapidly and unevenly.
Why waiting helps: Over 7–14 days the cuticle gradually settles, porosity normalises, and the hair's moisture balance re-stabilises. Applying Purple Storm during this window often produces blotchy, overly intense spots (especially on the ends) that are difficult to correct.
If you must colour sooner: Do a strand test on a hidden section first. Dilute the dye with a white conditioner (1:1 or 1:2) to slow uptake, and reduce processing time by half. Monitor visually every few minutes.
Aftercare: Use a protein–moisture balancing mask in the days between the chemical service and the colour application. Avoid heat styling and harsh shampoos during this recovery period.
General rule: The more recent and aggressive the prior service, the longer the wait should be. When in doubt, consult the stylist who performed the chemical work — they know your hair's current condition best.
