The feeling of warmth after applying ARTHROFLEX is an expected effect, not a sign of irritation. It is caused by Methyl Nicotinate (a form of nicotinic acid): this substance dilates the superficial blood vessels of the skin, increasing blood flow to the area where it is applied. That is why the skin reddens and becomes noticeably warm — a physiological reaction typical of such ingredients.
The intensity of the sensation depends on several factors:
Skin sensitivity. On thin or sensitive skin the warmth will be more noticeable than on the hardened areas of the feet.
Amount of gel. The more you apply, the stronger the effect. When using it for the first time, it is sensible to start with a small amount and see how your skin reacts.
Skin condition. The gel should not be applied to irritated, damaged or freshly shaved skin — the burning sensation would be sharp and unwelcome.
Temperature. After a hot shower or bath the blood vessels are already dilated, so the effect may be more intense. If you are sensitive to heat, it is better to wait 10–15 minutes after bathing or showering.
A normal reaction is warmth and slight redness that gradually fade. If the sensation turns into a pronounced burning or itching develops, wash the gel off with water. The gel is not used in case of hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients, including methyl nicotinate; if an allergic reaction occurs, stop using it and consult a doctor. If you have chronic skin conditions, it is advisable to consult a specialist before use.
