In the SHIK NECTAR description, the chia seed ingredient is called a hydrolysate, although the INCI list gives it as chia seed extract (Salvia Hispanica Seed Extract). In general terms, the difference is this: during hydrolysis, large natural molecules are broken down into smaller fragments. This allows the ingredient to spread better over the surface of the skin and play a more effective part in retaining moisture — large molecules are less good at this.
For dry skin, the cream is quite thoughtfully formulated: glycerin draws moisture to the surface, panthenol softens and reduces the feeling of tightness, and allantoin makes the texture especially comfortable on dry areas — elbows, shins and rough areas of the hands. These ingredients are widely used in dry skin care and are well studied.
The cream is best applied right after contact with water — after washing your hands or showering, while the skin is still slightly damp. At this point, glycerin and chia seed extract are better at retaining the moisture that is already there, and panthenol helps relieve the feeling of tightness that often appears after water, especially hard or chlorinated water.
