The omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acid ratio in hemp seed oil (approximately 3:1 omega-6 to omega-3) closely mirrors the ideal ratio for human skin lipid barrier maintenance. Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is a rare polyunsaturated fatty acid found in few plant oils; it provides the precursor for skin-specific anti-inflammatory eicosanoid metabolites and supports the restoration of the ceramide-fatty acid composition of the stratum corneum barrier.
