Evalar MKC is a food supplement based on microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) — a purified plant fibre obtained from cotton cellulose. In tablet form it is a convenient way to add insoluble fibre to a menu that does not always contain enough vegetables, whole grains and bran. People usually choose MCC when they want to feel fuller on smaller portions and gently encourage regular bowel movement.

How microcrystalline cellulose works. MCC is not digested or absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. Once swallowed with a generous amount of water, the tablets disintegrate and the cellulose particles swell, increasing the volume of stomach contents. This mechanical filling helps create a sense of satiety, which is why MCC is often used as part of weight-management plans and reduced-calorie menus. As the fibre travels further, it adds bulk to intestinal contents and acts as a mild natural sorbent, binding some of the metabolic by-products and food residues passing through the gut.
