Coconut oil is one of the most classic and widely used plant cosmetic oils in skincare and haircare, valued for its highly emollient and nourishing properties: its principal fatty acid is lauric acid (C12 saturated fatty acid, approximately 47% of the fatty acid profile), which gives coconut oil its characteristic semi-solid texture at room temperature (melting point ~24°C) and its highly effective skin-conditioning, barrier-supporting and moisture-retaining cosmetic properties.
