Tea tree oil is a pure essential oil, so it is too concentrated to be used straight on most skin surfaces. For safe application you should mix 1–2 drops of the oil with a carrier such as jojoba, almond or grapeseed oil before spreading it on a small area. Start with a tiny amount — no more than the size of a grain of rice — on the inner forearm and wait 24 hours to see if any redness or itching occurs. If the skin tolerates the test you can apply the diluted blend to blemish‑prone zones, the nail folds or the soles of the feet, always avoiding the eye area and mucous membranes. Because the oil is volatile, the scent fades quickly; re‑apply only if the effect wears off and never layer it over other thick creams, which can trap the oil and reduce its fresh‑feeling effect. When using it as part of a routine you can add the diluted mixture after cleansing, before moisturising, to let the oil penetrate the skin’s surface.
