Why does a glycine supplement contain B vitamins?

Glycine is an amino acid involved in transmitting signals between nerve cells. It helps the nervous system shift from a state of overload to a more balanced one, which makes it popular during periods of intensive mental work and when it is hard to unwind in the evening.

The B vitamins in the formula take care of related but separate tasks:

  • B1 is involved in producing energy from food and in conducting nerve impulses — without it, the normal functioning of the nervous system is hampered even when there is enough glycine.
  • B6 is needed for amino acid metabolism and the synthesis of neurotransmitters — substances on which attention, resilience under pressure and the quality of rest depend. Notably, B6 is also involved in the metabolism of glycine itself.
  • B12 is important for maintaining nerve tissue and for blood formation; a deficiency often shows up as tiredness and reduced concentration.

The combination of glycine with three B vitamins thus covers several links at once: the transmission of nerve signals, energy metabolism and neurotransmitter synthesis. This makes the supplement more comprehensive than single-ingredient glycine products, especially during periods of study, exam preparation or intensive office work.

The supplement is not a medicine and does not replace a balanced diet. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are contraindications; if you regularly take other medicines, consult a specialist before you start taking it.
