The combination of D3 and K2 is no accident: each vitamin is involved in a different stage of how the body handles calcium.
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) helps the intestine absorb calcium from food. Without adequate levels of D3, even a calcium-rich diet may not have the desired effect — the mineral is simply absorbed less well.
Vitamin K2 in the MK-7 form is involved in activating specific proteins that direct calcium that has already been absorbed into bone tissue. This matters because calcium in the blood does not by itself “know” where to go — K2 helps this process.
That is why the D3+K2 combination is often seen as logical: the first helps calcium get into the body, the second helps direct it to where it is needed. The MK-7 form used in VitalGold is one of the well-studied forms of K2 and is widely used in bone supplements.
The D3 dose in this complex is 2000 IU — a significant dose for an adult, which should be taken into account if you already take other sources of vitamin D.
