Burdock oil is a plant oil, so the risk of a greasy result is real if you apply too much or leave too much residue behind. The product is designed as a pre-wash oil, not a leave-in styling oil, so the greasiness should disappear during shampooing.
Practical ways to keep the finish light:
Start with less oil than seems necessary. A small amount spread through sections is easier to distribute evenly than a large pour.
Focus the oil on mid-lengths and ends, not only the roots. This is where dry, rough, straw-like texture usually shows up first.
Massage the shampoo into the scalp and lengths well. The first lather lifts the oil; the second lather cleans more thoroughly. Two washes are common after an oil treatment, especially for fine or oily hair.
If you usually condition after shampooing, you may not need much conditioner after an oil pre-treatment, because the oil already has a conditioning effect on the outer layer of the hair.
If the hair still feels heavy, reduce the amount next time or shorten the contact time.
The purpose of this product is not to produce a visible oily coat. It is chosen to improve the look and feel of brittle, frizzy or dehydrated lengths, with the traditional result being smoother and shinier hair after washing.
