Why is this product only recommended for children aged 3 and older?

The age restriction comes from several practical factors. Children under 3 have a thinner stratum corneum (the outermost skin layer) and a higher surface-area-to-body-weight ratio, which means ingredients absorb more readily and irritation risk is higher. The cleansing surfactants in this formula are mild by adult standards, but they're balanced for the oil production and skin resilience typical of a 3-year-old, not a toddler. The fragrance component — including the blackberry extract's natural aromatic compounds — also plays a role; younger children's skin barrier is more reactive to fragrance allergens, even naturally derived ones. If you have a child under 3, look for products explicitly labeled from birth or 0+ months, which use even gentler surfactant blends (often glucoside-based) and minimal or no fragrance. The 3+ marker isn't arbitrary — it aligns with EU cosmetic safety assessment categories for leave-on vs. rinse-off products and the age at which most children can reliably keep their eyes closed during rinsing, reducing accidental exposure.

Practically, if your child is 2.5 years and you've used this once without issue, it's not an emergency — but switching to a 0+ product for daily use is the safer baseline. The "stop use if signs of sensitivity appear" guidance applies at any age, but the threshold for reaction is lower the younger the child.
