Why is chondroitin in a body balm? I thought it was for joints.

Chondroitin is indeed widely recognized from oral supplements targeting joint comfort. However, in topical cosmetic formulas like this balm, it serves a different, skin-focused purpose. Here, chondroitin functions as a humectant, meaning it helps bind water to the skin's surface. This property aids in maintaining skin hydration, which contributes to a feeling of elasticity and suppleness. It complements other ingredients in the balm, such as nourishing sea buckthorn oil, to help condition skin that may feel dry, rough, or exposed to environmental factors like wind and cold. The inclusion aims to support the skin's texture and comfort during and after use, rather than providing internal joint support, which topical products cannot do.
