Why does this brow and lash dye use an ammonia-free base, and what difference does that make when applying it near the eyes?

The product is built on an ammonia-free base. Ammonia is commonly used in hair colour to open the cuticle more aggressively, but around the eyes that can feel harsher on thin, sensitive skin. Leaving it out makes the process more tolerable for the brow arch and lash line, where the skin is easily stressed.

Alongside the ammonia-free base, the dye has a cream texture rather than a runny liquid. A cream mixture stays in place better on small, precise areas, so it is easier to control where the colour goes and less likely to slip toward the eye. That matters because brows and lashes are worked on very close to the mucous membrane of the eye.

Castor oil is included in the formula to coat the hair shaft during colouring. This helps keep hairs more supple and reduces the dry, rough feel that can follow some cosmetic procedures. The combination of gentler base, cream format and oil support is what makes the product practical for home use rather than a salon-only treatment.

Even with a milder base, caution is still needed: the product contains hair dye substances, so an allergy patch test 48 hours before each use is required, and it should not be used on irritated or unusually sensitive skin. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a chronic condition or take medication, consult a specialist before use.
