Why does this balm feel both warm and cool at the same time, and does that indicate it's working?

The balm creates a warming-cooling sensation through two distinct ingredients with different mechanisms and onset times. Menthol acts first, providing an immediate cooling impression by stimulating surface temperature receptors in the skin. This is a sensory effect. Camphor follows with a more gradual warming feeling as it is absorbed. The contrasting sensations are designed to help the area feel looser and more mobile during the massage, and to improve the glide of the hands over the skin. This effect is not a medical indicator of efficacy, but a functional characteristic of the product's formulation. It makes the massage often feel more intensive than with a neutral body cream.

Note that cinnamon oil adds an extra warming note, which can make the overall sensation stronger. Because of these components, the balm may be too intense for very sensitive or damaged skin. Always avoid the eye area and mucous membranes, wash hands after use, and test on a small area first if you are prone to skin reactions.
