Why does the solution foam on the skin, and is that normal?

Yes, foaming is completely normal and is actually the working principle of this product. When the 3% solution touches skin and organic particles, hydrogen peroxide gradually breaks down and releases active oxygen. The visible white foam is simply oxygen bubbles forming at the point of contact.

This has a practical benefit: the bubbling action helps mechanically separate visible contaminants from the skin surface, which is why the solution is often perceived as a cleansing agent and not only as a basic antiseptic. In other words, the foam is doing part of the cleaning work for you — you do not need to rub the area vigorously.

Two things worth knowing:

• the amount of foam varies depending on how much organic material is present on the treated area, so sometimes you will see a lot of foam and sometimes very little — both are normal;
• a noticeable drop in foaming over time can be a general sign that a hydrogen peroxide solution has lost activity, which is one reason proper storage (tightly closed, away from heat and light) matters.

Once the reaction subsides, the loosened residue can be wiped away with a clean swab.
