Moisturisers work by trapping existing water in the stratum corneum, so timing matters. The most effective moment is within three minutes of rinsing — pat skin dry, then apply while it's still slightly damp. For hands, keep a small jar by each sink; after every wash, while skin is still moist, massage in a pea-sized amount. This prevents the repetitive wet-dry cycle that drives chronic roughness and fissures. On body, use after showering or bathing; warm water opens the skin's lipid channels briefly, letting the cocoa butter layer integrate more evenly.
For persistent rough zones — heels, elbows, knees, shins — a once-daily application may not be enough. In the evening, apply a visibly thicker layer (occlusive dressing principle) and, if practical, cover with cotton socks, gloves, or long sleeves for 20–30 minutes or overnight. The vitamin E in the formula supports the skin's antioxidant defences against environmental stressors, but it doesn't replace sunscreen; if treated areas are UV-exposed, apply SPF 30+ over the cream in the morning. Consistency beats intensity: twice-daily thin layers outperform a single heavy weekly session. If roughness persists beyond four weeks of diligent use, consult a dermatologist to rule out ichthyosis, psoriasis, or fungal involvement that needs targeted therapy.
